We are currently seeking an experienced and reliable Yard Mechanic to join our team at our yard in West Thurrock, Essex.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled mechanic with experience working on plant machinery, HGVs, vans and small plant equipment. Operating on a self-employed basis, the successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring our fleet and machinery remain safe, operational and well maintained, supporting projects across the business.
Working from our busy yard facility, you will be responsible for carrying out routine maintenance, repairs and breakdown response to minimise downtime and keep equipment operating efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out maintenance, servicing and repairs on plant machinery, HGVs, vans and small plant equipment
- Diagnose and rectify mechanical faults efficiently and safely
- Respond to breakdowns on sites and at operational locations as required
- Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance to reduce equipment downtime
- Ensure all repairs and maintenance work are completed to a high standard
- Liaise with operational teams to ensure machinery and vehicles are available when required
- Maintain a safe and organised working environment within the yard and workshop areas
- Keep accurate records of maintenance and repair activities
- Support the preparation and inspection of equipment before deployment to site
Requirements
- Proven experience working on plant machinery, lorries, vans and small plant equipment
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and repair skills
- Full UK driving licence (essential)
- Welding experience would be advantageous
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
- Reliable, dependable and committed to delivering high-quality workmanship
- Strong work ethic and a proactive approach to problem solving
