Downwell becomes a Company Supporter of Lighthouse Charity

Downwell Group is proud to announce that we have become a Company Supporter of the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity - an organisation dedicated to improving the mental health and wellbeing of people working in the construction industry (UK and Ireland).

This partnership represents an important step in our ongoing commitment to supporting the welfare of our people across all sites and offices. The construction industry continues to face significant challenges around stress, burnout, mental health inequalities and access to confidential support. As a business operating in high‑pressure and high-risk construction projects, we believe we have a responsibility to actively strengthen the support networks available to our people.

Why we’ve chosen to support Lighthouse

The Lighthouse Charity provides vital, life‑changing services, including:

  • a 24/7 industry helpline
  • text‑based and live chat support
  • access to free wellbeing and financial resources
  • structured support programmes for those in crisis

By becoming a Company Supporter, Downwell is supporting the charity in their essential work whilst also ensuring our people are trained to support others when they need it.

Downwell Wellbeing Support Hub

We have created a dedicated Wellbeing Support Hub for anyone on our sites and in our offices to access. The hub also contains the names and details of our trained Mental Health First Aiders, ensuring staff always know who they can speak to confidentially and without judgement.

Wellbeing as a core part of our ESG approach

At Downwell, we recognise that people are at the heart of ESG policies (Environmental, Social and Governance). The wellbeing of our teams directly affects safety, culture, decision‑making, performance and long‑term sustainability. Supporting mental health is not an add‑on for us – it is a core responsibility and part of delivering positive social value across our projects and communities.

This partnership builds on our wider commitments outlined on our Social Responsibility page.

Andy McClafferty, Managing Director at Downwell Group, commented:

“Looking after our people is the most important responsibility we have as a business. Becoming a Company Supporter of the Lighthouse Charity reinforces our commitment to ensuring every member of the Downwell team has access to confidential, high‑quality support whenever they need it. It’s a positive step for our business and for the industry.”

Ed Grundon, Head of Group Marketing at Downwell Group, commented:

“Our ESG approach places people at the centre. Wellbeing directly influences safety, culture and long‑term sustainability, which is why partnering with the Lighthouse Charity is such a meaningful milestone for us. Launching our Wellbeing Support Hub and expanding our Mental Health First Aider network are just the first steps in strengthening the support available to our teams.”
